Good news may very well be on the way for Team India ahead of Asia Cup 2025 as T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is on a road to recovery. Sports Tak has learned that the 34-year-old's fitness is closely being monitored ahead of the continental tournament. He was also recently seen batting in the nets at BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) located in Bengaluru.

Notably, Suryakumar had underwent a sports hernia surgery in Germany earlier this year in June. He had then resumed training some time later at the CoE. The final call on his participation in Asia Cup will be taken soon by the selectors.

India has a fantastic record under Suryakumar

Suryakumar had succeeded Rohit Sharma as captain last year in July after the latter had announced his retirement from the shortest format following the Men in Blue's T20 World Cup triumph. The Indian team is yet to lose a T20I series under his leadership. They had first whitewashed the three-match series against Sri Lanka before doing the same against Bangladeesh. They then went on to defeat South Africa and England 3-1 and 4-1 respectively.

Meanwhile, there is a big update regarding Hardik Pandya's fitness as well. Sports Tak has learned that the all-rounder has passed his fitness Test ahead of Asia Cup and is highly likely to feature in the tournament. The 31-year-old, who last featured for the Men in Blue in the format in February against England, was also seen at the CoE where he underwent a fitness assessment.

Meanwhile, Asia Cup is set to commence from September 9 and will go on till September 28. India has been grouped alongside Pakistan, UAE and Oman in the tournament. The Men in Blue will begin their campaign with the clash against UAE on September 10 before clocking horns against arch-rivals Pakistan on September 14. Their final group stage fixture will be against Oman and will be held on September 19. The Indian team will be hoping to win their second major T20I trophy in as many years in the upcoming competition.
