Star batter Prithvi Shaw is scheduled to make his debut for Maharashtra in the All India Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament, having been named in the 17-member squad. The upcoming Buchi Babu tournament will be played from August 18 to September 9. The 25-year-old made the decision to leave Mumbai earlier this year after being overlooked for most of the previous domestic season. He will be looking to make a fresh start with his new team after a challenging period with Mumbai, where he was reportedly dropped due to concerns about his fitness and discipline.
Prithvi Shaw in Maharashtra's squad for Buchi Babu tournament
Playing under the captaincy of Ankit Bawane, the Maharashtra squad also includes Ruturaj Gaikwad. The Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament is set to take place in Chennai from August 18 to September 9. Gaikwad, who last played in the warm-up matches before the Test series in England, will also be eager to make an impact. However, both Gaikwad and wicketkeeper Saurabh Nawale are expected to play only one game before joining the West Zone squad in Bengaluru for the Duleep Trophy. The West Zone has a direct entry into the semi-finals and will begin their campaign on September 4.
This tournament will mark Prithvi Shaw's first assignment for Maharashtra after his move from rival team Mumbai at the start of the season. Despite his immense talent and experience as an international player, Shaw has recently been in the headlines more for off-field controversies than for his on-field performances.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has been on the fringes of the Indian team for several months, will also be looking to make his mark, albeit in a new role. However, his time with the squad will be brief. Gaikwad and wicketkeeper Saurabh Nawale are scheduled to leave after playing just one match to join the West Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy in Bengaluru. The West Zone has received a direct entry into the semi-finals and will begin their campaign on September 4.
