In the first Test match between Australia and India at Perth, India skipper Jasprit Bumrah equalled the great Dale Steyn with a spectacular dismissal of Steve Smith. In Australia's seventh over of the first innings, Bumrah nailed Smith plumb in the middle of the wicket. As a result, Bumrah became just the second bowler to dismiss Smith for a golden duck in a Test match, matching Steyn.
The Indian speedster came out spitting fire against the Australian batters and made the Perth pitch a nightmare for batters. After India was bowled out for just 150 runs in their first innings at Perth, Bumrah took three quick wickets in his opening spell to put the side in a great position.
Smith has played in 196 innings, however, he has only scored 11 ducks. Throughout his career, Smith has only been fired for a golden duck twice. It is interesting to note that Smith, who used to bat in the lower order, was trapped in front of the Stumps by Dale Steyn at Gqeberha back in 2014, the last time he was out in the first ball he faced.
Bumrah could have had the fourth wicket in his early spell itself if Virat Kohli had not dropped a simple catch of Marnus Labuschagne while standing in the second slip.
Rishabh Pant and Nitish Reddy's valiant and aggressive knock helped India reach the 150-run mark. However, it appeared low when the first innings came to an end but the Indian pacers made that 150 look like 300 on the Optus ground as Aussies could not stand in front of the Indian pace attack.
First it was Bumrah who took three wickets and then got support from Harshit Rana and Mohammed Siraj who picked up crucial scalps as well. At the end of Day 1, Australia are at 67/7 and are trailing behind by 83 runs. Bumrah ended day 1 with four wickets, meanwhile Siraj got two and Rana settled with 1.
