Cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar reckons that KL Rahul can take the first ball as Yashasvi Jaiswal got out on the second ball of the first over during the third Test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at Gabba. Gavaskar noted that this is the second time that a southpaw was dismissed in the first over during the five-test match series against Australia.
Jaiswal who smashed a century in the second inning of the first Test match was cheaply dismissed during the second and third Test. In the first inning of the second Test, Mitchell Starc picked up Jaiswal's wicket on the first ball of the inning. In his recent outing during the Gabba Test Jaiswal dismissed on second ball of the first over.
Gavaskar advised the Indian batter to not look at the scoreboard while batting but instead take a look at the clock as the Rohit Sharma-led side lost four wickets under 15 overs. India's top batter Virat Kohli (3), Yashasvi Jaiswal (4), Shubman Gill (1) and Rishabh Pant (9) got out on a single-digit score in the Gabba Test.
"Yeah, don't look at a scoreboard. Just look at the clock and just get there. That's the thing that this is where I want to be at lunch. And then because it gives you a little time to settle down, it also gives you a sense of what the pitch is. Second ball you play, you're not even, you know, the first ball has been a streaky boundary as well for Jaiswal. Second ball, obviously. So maybe the other thing could be that because he's got out now twice in the first innings within three deliveries, first ball in Adelaide, second ball over here, maybe Rahul takes the first ball" said Gavaskar.
Coming back to the third Test, rain stopped play in the third session of Day 3 of the ongoing Test match at The Gabba as India still trail Australia's score by 394 runs.
At Stumps on Day 3, the visitors are struggling at 51/4 with right-hand batter KL Rahul (33*) and team skipper Rohit Sharma (0*) unbeaten at the crease.
