Australia's star batter Travis Head who smashed two consecutive centuries against India in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 missed the team's practice session on Monday ahead of the Boxing Day Test scheduled to take place at Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne. The 30-year-old batter was seen limping during his last outing against India at Gabba and then did not take the field on Day 5 of the Gabba Test against India. However, at the post-match presentation, he said he was just "sore" but would be raring to go come December 26.
As per Sydney Morning Herald, the batter will look to prove his fitness on Tuesday, two days before the crucial Boxing Day Test.
However, the same Sydney Morning Herald report downplayed Head not coming to train on Monday, citing the team spokesperson, who said that the practice session was "optional."
Travis Head's form in Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25
Australia star batter Travis Head is in the form of his life in the ongoing five-Test match series. He scored 409 runs at an average of 81.2. His first century of the ongoing series came during a pink-ball Test where he smashed 140 runs that helped Australia to register a 10-wicket dominating win in Adelaide.
He later followed this performance up with another century at the Gabba as he played a 152-run knock. He had previously also scored 89 runs in the second innings of the Perth Test, which Australia lost by 295 runs.
Australia also made a change in their squad as they dropped Nathan McSweeney and added uncapped opener Sam Konstas which is most likely to make his debut in the fourth Test.
The five-test match series is currently levelled at 1-1 as the third Test match ended in a draw. Now, both teams will focus to win the fourth Test match to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) final which will take place in England next year.
