30-year-old fast-bowling all-rounder Beau Webster is set to receive his maiden call-up to Australia's Test squad for the upcoming pink-ball Adelaide Test. As per reports in Australian media, Webster has been added to Australia's Test squad as injury cover for Mitchell Marsh who bowled 17 overs in Perth Test.
“(Marsh) has been battling a couple of little niggles since the UK tour,” Australian captain Pat Cummins said during the post-match press conference on November 25.
“He was a little but sore towards the end of this Test match, so the next ten days he has a chance to freshen up and try to get it right. We’ll see how he goes.”
How Marsh fared in series opener?
Like most, Marsh failed in the first innings with bat and departed for a single-digit score. Before that, he got the wickets of middle-order batters Dhruv Jurel and Washington Sundar. Later, he toiled before taking the wicket of opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. In the run chase, he scored 47 runs from 47 deliveries.
Coach Andrew McDonald was satisifed by Marsh's performance.
"We knew that Mitch [Marsh] was slightly underdone coming in but I thought the performance in the first innings was satisfactory," he said.
