India have managed to post a good total of 404 in the first innings of the first Test at Zahur Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram. In Day 2's second session, India added 126 runs on the board despite losing the wicket of Shreyas Iyer early in the day. The gritty eighth-wicket partnership of 92 runs between Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav helped India recover and cross the 400-run mark.

Iyer could not do much damage on Day 2 as he could add just four runs to his score before getting bowled by Ebadot Hossain. He scored 86 runs from 192 deliveries including 10 boundaries. Ashwin and Kuldeep stayed in the middle for the entire first session.

Ashwin got to his half-century from the 123rd over Bangladesh's in-form all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz broke the partnership in the second session. Mehidy lured Ashwin into dancing down the wicket for a big shot but the ball missed the bat and Nurul Hasan pulled off an easy stumping. Ashwin scored 58 runs from 113 deliveries including two fours and as many sixes.

In the next over, Kuldeep's fightback ended as well. Taijul Islam trapped him in front of the wickets on the back foot. Kuldeep played a patient knock of 40 from 114 deliveries. Meanwhile, Umesh Yadav started off with a six. Mohammed Siraj came to the crease and started off with a boundary. Umesh was in no mood to hold back and hit a 100 metre six off Mehidy. Siraj tried to copy him and miscued one to long-on fielder Mushfiqur Rahim. Siraj scored four runs from three deliveries whereas Umesh remained unbeaten for 15 off 10 deliveries.

For Bangladesh, Taijul and Mehidy picked four wickets each. Pacers Ebadot and Khaled Ahmed picked one wicket each whereas skipper Shakib Al Hasan remained wicketless. Earlier on Day 1, Cheteshwar Pujara's typical knock of 90 and Rishabh Pant's quickfire 46 helped India recover from three quick wickets of openers and Virat Kohli in the first session.
