In a big setback to Shubman Gill's Team India, their promising left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has sustained an injury leading up to the fourth Test match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, visitors' assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate confirmed. It all happened just days before the fourth Test between India and England, which is slated to be held at Old Trafford in Manchester from July 23.

Arshdeep Singh suffers injury ahead of 4th Test against England

Team India kicked off their practice sessions for the upcoming Test match against the Ben Stokes-led English side on Thursday, July 17. During this session, a concerning incident occurred as Arshdeep Singh apparently injured his bowling hand and was subsequently seen with tape on it.

India's assistant coach, Ryan ten Doeschate, confirmed that Arshdeep Singh had suffered a cut on his bowling hand while attempting to stop a ball during practice.

"He took a ball, while he was bowling there, the side of the ball; he tried to stop the ball. It's just a cut, so we have to see how bad the cut is. Obviously, the medical team is taking him to see a doctor and if he needs stitches, that is going to be important to our planning for the next few days," Doeschate told the reporters.

Despite being a part of the squad, the left-arm pacer Arshdeep has remained on the sidelines, warming the bench throughout the ongoing Test series against England. The team management, led by Gautam Gambhir, has so far preferred a pace attack comprising Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Akash Deep, and this trio has performed commendably. Notably, Mohammed Siraj is currently the leading wicket-taker in the series with 13 wickets, followed closely by Jasprit Bumrah with 12 wickets and Akash Deep with 11 wickets. It is worth recalling that Bumrah had previously communicated his availability for only three of the five Test matches in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Reports suggest that he is likely to play in the upcoming fourth Test, marking his second consecutive appearance, before potentially missing the final Test of the series.
