Doctors 'encouraged' by Gautam Gambhir's mother's condition and expect early recovery: Report

Doctors reportedly shared a positive update on Gambhir's mother

Ahead of India's gruelling five-match Test series against England, head coach Gautam Gambhir had to return to the country after his mother had suffered a heart attack. The former India batter, who had reached English soil last week, landed in India on Wednesday as reported by Sports Tak with his mother admitted to the Gangaram Hospital in New Delhi.

Doctors are expecting Gambhir's mother to recover early

According to a report by Cricbuzz, Gambhir's mother's condition is 'still not known clearly', however the doctors are encouraged by her condition and are expecting an early recovery. The report further claimed that Gambhir is considering leaving for England by next week. However, everything will depend on his mother's recovery.

It will be interesting to see if Gambhir is able to join the Indian team in Leeds ahead of the first Test or returns before the second match which is set to be played in Birmingham from July 2.

The India head coach was set to oversee the four-day intra squad match between India and India A which was set to commence from June 13 in Beckenham, however the other Indian coaches will now be the ones in-charge.

The upcoming five-match Test series against England will see India enter a new era in red-ball cricket as not only did the BCCI appoint a new captain in Shubman Gill, they also selected several youngsters in the 18-member squad that they picked for the highly important tour. They also gave a place to veteran batter Karun Nair in the squad after being absent from India's Test set-up for eight long years.

The series will mark the beginning of the new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle so it will be very important for both the sides. Both the teams failed to make the WTC final this time around, so they will be looking to perform better in the next cycle.
