India vice-captain Rishabh Pant got injured during Day 1 of the fourth Test match against England at Emirates Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester, and after getting injured, the wicketkeeper batter, who was playing on 37 runs, left the field midway. Pant, who is in the lethal form, will most likely to be unavailable for the fifth Test due to injury.
After Pant's injury setback, Ishan Kishan was expected to join the Indian team in England later this week as his replacement, but it has now been reported that the 26-year-old stumper from Jharkhand will miss out due to an injury.
According to a report in the Times of India, Ishan has suffered an ankle injury recently and has 10 stitches on his left foot after he fell from a scooty.
“Ishan has suffered an ankle injury and has ten stitches on his left foot after he fell from a scooty," a source tracking the development was quoted as saying by TOI on Thursday.
“Selectors did reach out to Ishan, but only on Thursday. His stitches have been removed, and he currently has a plaster on his left ankle."
Kishan recently played two County matches for Nottinghamshire, and he was also a part of the India A squad that faced the England Lions ahead of the Test series, though the 26-year-old did not appear in any of the two matches.
Rishabh Pant injury update
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to X on Thursday to confirm the news of Pant’s injury and informed that he won’t keep in the ongoing match but will come out to bat if needed.
"Rishabh Pant, who sustained an injury to his right foot on Day 1 of the Manchester Test, will not be performing wicket-keeping duties for the remainder of the match. Dhruv Jurel will assume the role of wicket-keeper. Despite his injury, Rishabh Pant has joined the team on Day 2 and will be available to bat as per team requirements" BCCI posted
Pant is among the highest run-getters in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. He scored 462 runs in seven innings including two tons and two half-centuries.
