Sourav Ganguly showers praise on Indian team after victory at Edgbaston

India defeated England by 336 runs in second Test

The Shubman Gill-led Indian team recorded a 336-run victory over England in the second Test of the five-match series. This was anothing short of a historic victory for the Men in Blue as before this, they hadn't won a single Test out of the seven that they had played at Edgbaston before.

India gave a fabulous all-round performance in second Test

Gill and Akash Deep were the star performers for India during the Test. While the former played incredible knocks of 269 and 161 in the first and second innings respectively, the latter picked up a total of 10 wickets during the match. This win saw the visitors level the series at 1-1 ahead of the third Test at Lord's which is set to commence from July 10.

Folowing the victory in Birmingham, former India captain Sourav Ganguly showered praise on Gill & Co. for their brilliant performance in the match and remarked that the visitors showcased a 'fantastic' team display.

"Team India played well. It is a good team. Shubman Gill was outstanding. Rishabh Pant was outstanding. Yashasvi Jaiswal, the fast bowlers, and Ravindra Jadeja have all performed. It has been a fantastic team effort. So good to see youngsters stand up and win," Ganguly told ANI.

"It was a great win. Two days later, there is a Test match at Lord's. We hope that they win that Test match too. Best wishes to them. May they play like they played in Birmingham. They will definitely perform well," he added.

Meanwhile, coming to the match, the Men in Blue set up a target of 608 during the final session of Day 4. They had the big task at hand of taking 10 wickets in the remaining four sessions of the match and their bowlers delivered big time. While Akash Deep finished with sensational figures of 6/99, the likes of Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar picked up a wicket each to bundle out the hosts for 271 runs during the final session of Day 5. It remains to be seen if India will manage to continue this momentum heading into the highly-important third Test.
