India's pace bowling contingent for the ongoing five-Test series against England has seen a slight alteration with the release of Harshit Rana from the squad ahead of the second match in Birmingham. A day following Team India's loss in the first Test match against England at Leeds, reports from the Times of India suggest that the team management has released pacer Harshit Rana from the squad.

The young fast bowler, who was initially included as a precautionary measure, was not seen accompanying his teammates as they boarded the bus to Birmingham. However, he was not observed boarding the team bus heading towards Birmingham.

The Indian team departed from Leeds at approximately 11:30 am local time and anticipated reaching Birmingham in a little over three hours. The schedule for the team includes a two-day rest period before they resume their training sessions.

Right after the match, even India's head coach Gautam Gambhir hinted towards Harshit's release as he said that the pacer was roped in a back up because there was a big of a niggle in the group which is fine now so he might have to fly back to India now.

"I haven't spoken to the chairman selector; I will speak to the chairman of selectors because there was a bit of a niggle in the group. That is why we wanted him as a backup. "But at the moment, everything looks fine, so if everyone is fine, he would have to fly back," Gambhir had said on Rana following India's defeat in the first Test.

In the meantime, after their five-wicket defeat against England, Shubman Gill-led Team India is expected to take a two-day break to recuperate. Following this period of rest, they will kick off their training regimen to prepare for the second Test match against England.

Despite amassing 835 runs including both the innings studded with five centuries India lost the match. This marked a unique instance in Test cricket where a team suffered a defeat despite having five centurions in a single match.

During the match, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant all reached triple figures. However, England staged a remarkable comeback, successfully chasing down a target of 371 runs and securing a five-wicket victory on the final day. Ben Duckett's aggressive innings of 149 laid the foundation for this record chase, complemented by significant contributions from Crawley and Root. The cumulative total of 1673 runs scored by both teams in this Test match represents the highest ever recorded in a Test encounter between India and England. Looking ahead, India is scheduled to face England in the second Test at Edgbaston on July 2
