Shikhar Dhawan revealed Dale Steyn to be the toughest bowler that he ever faced

Dhawan recently released his autobiography titled 'The One'

Former India batter Shikhar Dhawan was a key figure in the side for several years. The left-hander scored tons of runs for the Indian team in all the formats and was known for his flamboyant batting style. With a total of 24 centuries and 55 fifties in international cricket, Dhawan was among the finest batters in the world at one stage.

Dhawan called time on a highly successful career in August, 2024 and decided to retire from all forms of the game. Having played a total of 269 matches in his international career, scoring over 10,000 runs, the batter's contributions for the national team will never be forgotten. After announcing his retirement almost a year ago, Dhawan recently released his autobography titled 'The One' where he shared many of his life lessons and also offered advice to the rising stars of Indian cricket.

Dhawan named Steyn as the toughest bowler he ever faced

In an exclusive chat with IANS, Dhawan revealed the toughest bowler that he ever faced. The batter took on several amazing bowlers during his career, however one that stood out to him was Dale Steyn. The former India cricketer remarked that the legendary South Africa quick didn't just have raw pace, but his aggression and fierce look also helped in mounting pressure on opposing batters.

"Dale Steyn was always a tough one — he had raw pace, aggression, skill, and that fierce look! James Anderson too. As for sledging, it's part of the game. Sometimes, it's the sledging that brings out the best in you," Dhawan said during the chat.

Dhawan also congratulated Team India for defeating England at Edgbaston and recording their first-ever victory at the venue. Shubman Gill & Co. gave a fantastic all-round performance and ended up defeating the Three Lions by a massive 336-run margin in the second Test, levelling the ongoing five-match series at 1-1.

"First of all, I'd like to congratulate the entire team for winning at Edgbaston after 58 years — a phenomenal achievement. The way the boys bounced back in the second Test showed real character and resilience," Dhawan stated.

Meanwhile, the third Test of the series between India and England will be played at Lord's and will commence from July 10. Though the Men in Blue have only recorded three victories in the 19 Tests that they have played at the venue, they will be looking to put the painful past behind them just like how they did at Edgbaston, and script a famous victory that will help them in securing a valuable lead in the series.
