India head coach Gautam Gambhir has returned to India due to family emergency

Gautam Gambhir recently reached UK along with India's Test squad

Head coach Gautam Gambhir is flying back to India from UK due to an emergency. Sports Tak has learnt that the reason for Gambhir's sudden departure was due to a medical emergency involving his mother, who suffered a heart attack. She is currently admitted to a hospital and is receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

This occurred just before the senior Indian team was scheduled to play an intra-squad match against India A, which was set to begin on June 13 in Kent. The Indian cricket team is currently in the United Kingdom in preparation for their upcoming five-match Test series against England. The series is scheduled to start on June 20th in Headingley.

However, Gambhir is expected to link up with his team in a week time before the series opener if things go well.

During Gautam Gambhir's absence, the responsibility of leading the team will fall to the assistant coach, Ryan ten Doeschate. He will be supported by the batting coach, Sitanshu Kotak, and the bowling coach, Morne Morkel, who will all work together to guide the team.

The intra-squad match between Team India and India A is slated to be played from June 13 to June 16. However, the team management decided that the practice match between India and India A would be played without any spectators present. Although the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) did not officially disclose the specific reason behind this decision, it is widely speculated that the lack of first-class status for the match led to the decision to keep it a private affair.

"June13-16: Closed Intra squad game. No vision access to Media/Broadcast. On the final day of the squad game, a player/member of support staff will be made available to the media," BCCI said in a statement.
