India's premier fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah's participation in the second Test of the series at Edgbaston, Birmingham, is not confirmed. The Indian team management is still keeping the decision under wraps even though many experts have said that Bumrah may skip the second Test and play at the Lord's. But, England's Harry Brook pointed out that England won the Test despite Bumrah playing. He said that the England batters would like to put all Indian bowlers under pressure. However, the absence of Bumrah makes a difference.
"He’s obviously a great bowler — releases it from a slightly awkward angle and has an amazing amount of skill as well. You just try and respect his good balls and attack his bad balls, really, like any other bowler. I think we had a good win with him playing last week. We’re going to try and look to put all the bowlers under pressure; it doesn’t matter who’s bowling at us. But yes, if the team’s missing the No. 1 Test bowler in the world, it could hopefully make a difference," Brook told the Times of India.
Brook happy with 99 and golden duck in Headingley
In the previous Test, Brook was troubled by Bumrah. He was dismissed by Bumrah with a well-directed bouncer, but it turned out to be a no-ball. He went on to score 99 runs and missed his ton as he top-edged Prasidh Krishna's bouncer. In the run chase, he got out for a golden duck to Shardul Thakur. Brook is happy with the 99-run knock. He doesn't rue taking the attacking approach when he was one run away from three figures.
"Well, I’ve had a little bit of reflection on it last week, I should have got a pair in that game. Obviously, I got out to Bumrah off a no-ball, so I’m pretty happy walking away with 99 and playing a critical role in that game. So yes, I just try and play the way I do. On 99, if you get a short ball, you’re probably more likely to take it on than if you’re on 0. I saw it as a scoring opportunity, and unfortunately, I top edged it straight to the man," said England's white-ball captain.
No change in winning combination for England, Archer's return postponed
While the Indian think tank is keeping the playing XI for Edgbaston under wraps, England named an unchanged side for Edgbaston Test. Jofra Archer was expected to make his comeback but couldn't due to personal reasons. Archer is likely to play in Lord's Test, the venue where he made his Test debut in 2019.
