Former England captain Nasser Hussain lavished praise on wicketkeeper batter KL Rahul during the first Test match between India and England. KL Rahul, who is featuring as an opener alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal in the ongoing Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy, scored 42 runs in the first inning.
Post the end of play on Day 3, in a discussion with Sky Sports, Nasser Hussain admitted that he has huge inspiration for KL Rahul. He also said that KL Rahul is one of the best players of the cover drive as well.
"I have huge admiration for KL and the way he bats. He is old school. He plays the ball late. He he leaves the ball really well, but he doesn't go into his shell and just block it. You bowl him a bad ball or front foot or back foot. He just puts it away. He's one of the best cover drivers I've seen in the game. He's a touch player in the game that's got so many power hitters in. He's just got a bit of touch and a bit of class," he said. (1:53)
Coming back to the match, KL Rahul scored a sublime 47 after England negated India's advantage by totalling 465 in their first innings as the visitors had another ordinary day in the field on day three of the first Test. India dropped at least five catches, and barring Jasprit Bumrah, the effort from the pacers left a lot to be desired, allowing England to even out the game after the Shubman Gill-led side posted 471 in the first innings. At stumps, India reached 90 for two with Rahul (47 batting off 75) and Shubman Gill (6 batting off 10).
While writing this copy, KL Rahul has completed his half-century, and he is batting alongside Rishabh Pant. Both batters are currently looking for a partnership in the overcast conditions at Headingley
