Bangladesh pulled off a historic effort by securing a maiden home Test victory against Pakistan in the first match, securing a comfortable 104-run win on the fifth day at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.

Big win for Bangladesh

Pacer Nahid Rana was the star on the final day, who produced a brilliant spell of 5/40 to dismantle the visitor's batting lineup, chasing a target of 268, slumped from a stable 82/2 to 163 all out in a single session. Spinners Taijul Islam and Taskin Ahmed gave solid support, making sure of lower-order fightback from Pakistan.

Bangladesh captain leading from the front

Earlier in the game, Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto set the tempo with a solid 101 in the first innings, guiding his team to a robust 413. He was well supported by Mominul Haque, who played two key knocks of 91 and 56. In the second innings, Mominul reached a new milestone in his career, becoming the third BAN batsman to score 5,000 runs in Test cricket.

Bangladesh take lead in two-match Test series

Pakistan's challenge was highlighted by debutant Azan Awais, who displayed great temperament to score 103 in the first innings. Despite his century and a five-wicket hail from pacer Mohammad Abbas, the visitors were outplayed in crucial sessions. With this win, Bangladesh takes a 1-0 lead in the two-match series, marking their first-ever Test win against Pakistan on home soil. 

Big change in WTC Points Table

After Bangladesh national cricket team defeated Pakistan national cricket team for the first time on Pakistani soil in the opening Test of the two-match series, the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 points table witnessed a significant reshuffle.

The historic victory helped Bangladesh climb up the standings, reaching sixth position with 16 points (44.44%). On the other hand, Pakistan suffered a major setback after slipping down the table standing at seventh place with 12 points (33.33%). Meanwhile, Australia national cricket team and New Zealand national cricket team continued to hold the top two positions respectively.
