India veteran batter Karun Nair is currently in England alongside Shubman Gill-led side for the upcoming five-Test match series, which is scheduled to start from June 20. The batter made his national comeback after performing brilliantly in domestic cricket.
Nair scored 779 runs in just eight innings in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and followed that up by putting up 863 runs in just nine matches in the Ranji Trophy. He also scored a century in the Ranji Trophy final against Kerala
Nair, who travelled to England last month after finishing his IPL duties, began his tour with a double ton for Abhimanyu Easwaran-led India A in the first of two unofficial Tests against the England Lions in Canterbury.
"Not sure actually," he said of the prospect of returning to India's starting XI. "I'll have to experience that feeling myself, just go out there and feel it for myself. I'm sure there'll be a lot of feelings, ones that I can't express right now. It'll be a surreal feeling" said Karun Nair on a clip shared by BCCI.
Karun Nair's Karnatalka teammate also lavished praise on his inspirational return to the Team India set up. Rahul emphasised the challenging path Nair has navigated to earn this opportunity.
"I have known him for a very long time, and the months that he spent here in the UK playing cricket. I can understand how hard and how lonely it was for him to be able to do all of that and come back into the team. It's special for him and his family and for friends like us who have seen his journey. Very inspiring and hopefully his experience and his learnings from playing county cricket here will hold him in good stead when he plays the Test matches here," Rahul said.
The upcoming five-Test match series against England will be India's first red-ball assignment after a huimiliating 3-1 defeat in Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
