Indian's veteran batter Cheteshwar Pujara pointed out the flaws in Yashasvi Jaiswal's batting technique exposed by England captain ben Stokes. He implied how England bowlers can bowler similar line and length to make Jaiswal slash, instead of timing the shot, as we witnessed in the first innings at Edgbaston, Birmingham, in the ongoing second Test. Pujara feels that bowlers should remain calm and consistent and wait for the left-handed batter to make a similar mistake.
In a conversation with Sony Sports, Pujara said, "You've got to bowl the right length; around off-stump, on a good length. Keep doing that and wait for him to make a mistake.”
Pujara felt that Jaiswal found it difficult in the beginning to match the pace of the game, but later on, adjusted with the same. He pointed out that Jaiswal's strokeplay leaves bowlers with a small margin of error.
“Early on, it seemed like he was trying too hard to play shots, but once he settled, the kind of strokes he played were outstanding. Once he gets through that initial half-hour, he's in complete control. He doesn't miss scoring opportunities, and that makes it very difficult for a bowling team," the 37-year-old said.
"If you pitch it up, he drives well. If it's short outside off-stump, he cuts well. If you try bumpers, he pulls confidently. The margin of error for bowlers is incredibly small against him,” he added.
However, Jaiswal got India off to a good start despite KL Rahul and Karun nair falling cheaply. Jaiswal hit 13 boundaries in his 87-run knock off 107 balls. He missed out on the second consecutive century on the tour. He shared a 66-run partnership with skipper Shubman Gill, who went on to score a century.
Jaiswal on his dismissal
Jaiswal was disappointed with the way he got out. He opened up about being challenged by Stokes as well.
"It is disappointing to get out like that but it is part of game. But I want to enjoy the game at the same time. I try to find a solution what can be good in this situation (when he is challenged). Plans are always in the mind," said the 23-year-old in the press conference.
