Akash Deep of India, is congratulated for taking the wicket of #17, Ben Duckett of England, caught by #77, Shubman Gill of India during Day Two of the Second Rothesay Test match between England and India at Edgbaston Cricket Ground

Story Highlights:

Indian pacers proved to be totally ineffective against the duo of Brook and Smith

Varun Aaron criticized Indian pacers for their performance on Day 3

After a fantastic start to Day 3 which saw Mohammed Siraj pick up the wickets of both Joe Root and Ben Stokes on consecutive deliveries, the Indian bowlers got punished by both Harry Brook and Jamie Smith. With their 'Bazball' approach, the duo punished the opposing bowlers and hit boundaries for fun at Edgbaston.

Both Smith and Brook have reached their centuries

Smith would go on to reach his century during the final few overs of the first session after facing just 80 deliveries. While on the other hand, Brook also moved into triple figures during the first few overs of the second session. The partnership helped England in breaching the 300-run mark during the second session as the Indian bowlers failed to get the all-important breakthrough.

Former India pacer Varun Aaron was very unhappy with the performance of the Men in Blue's speedsters in the match and claimed that they 'allowed' England to counter-attack. He also criticized them for not being able to touch the 145 kph mark and for bowling too many short deliveries.

“I think India allowed this counterpunch by the English batsmen. If you see what worked really well for India last evening and even this morning, it was bowling at the right length. But the moment India got Stokes' wicket, they got a bit too aggressive on a flat wicket," Aaron said on JioHotstar.

"Too many bouncers, too many short balls. On a slow pitch, when none of your bowlers are consistently pushing the 145 kph mark, you cannot afford to bowl that many short deliveries. Indian bowlers have the skill to keep it on that ideal length — keep hitting the stumps. Sustained pressure is what gets you wickets. You can't expect things to happen immediately all the time," he added.

Meanwhile, after the end of the second session on Day 3, England stand on 235/5 and trail India by 232 runs. While Smith is unbeaten on 157, Brook is batting on 140 and it isn't looking like either of them will be getting dismissed anytime soon. Their partnership is already up to 271 and they will be trying to soon make it cross the 300-run mark. It will be interesting to see if the Indian bowlers manage to make a comeback and are able to preserve their side's lead ahead of their second innings.
