Sunil Gavaskar shares his verdict on Shubman Gill sledging Zak Crawley

Gill was seen abusing Crawley during the third day of Lord's Test

The end of the third day of the Lord's Test between India and England was nothing short of cinematic as Shubman Gill was seen fuming over Zak Crawley's time-wasting tactics. After India got bundled out for 387, the exact same score as England's first-inning total, there were only 10 minutes left until the end of day's play. The opening pair of Crawley and Ben Duckett soon came out to bat for the remaining overs, however it didn't take long for the temperatures to boil.

It all began when Crawley pulled away four times before facing the third delivery of the first over by Jasprit Bumrah. Following this, Gill started to taunt the England batter as he believed that he was intentionally wasting time so that the play could come to an end. Crawley was then hit on the glove and called the physio onto the field which once again lead to the Indian team having verbal exchanges with both him and Duckett.

England managed to finish the first over without losing any wicket as the play was brought to an end. Following the incident, legendary India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar argued that the reason behind such animosity on the field was the fact that many England players do not participate in the IPL, and thus aren't friends with most of the players present in the Indian team.

"England wanting to make it the last over. The Indians thought it was may bit of gamesmanship. Maybe it was. There is a reason why this happened. That's because not a lot of England players are competing in the IPL. That's my thinking. From this England team Joe Root did not play, Ben Stokes did not play. What has happened with other teams is that a lot of their players are in the IPL," Gavaskar said on air after the conclusion of Day 3.

"They have mixed with the Indian players, travelled with them. They shared changing room. This is what I keep saying, before the IPL, there was lot of animosity, bordering on being brutal, between some players. That intensity is still there, like Archer bowling to Yashasvi. There is lot of confrontation between India and England players because they don't play in the IPL," he added.

Meanwhile, India managed to reach the ewxact same total as England thanks to valiant knocks from KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja. Rahul was the star performer for the visitors with his fantastic century. This was his second century of the series and at the iconic Lord's stadium. He has been sensational with the bat so far in the series and it remains to be seen if he will be able to maintain this form for the rest of the matches.
