ICC's marquee event will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. For those unaware, Virat endured a hamstring injury while playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the final of Indian Premier League (IPL) against Shubman Gill's Gujarat Titans (GT).
Because of the injury, the former India skipper had to miss the recently concluded home ODI series against Afghanistan, where India dominatingly won the series by 3-0.
No Hardik Pandya in ENG series
The Shubman Gill-led side will miss the services of star all-rounder Hardik Pandya, as he endured a relapse in his quadricep issue, which forced him to stay out of the Afghanistan series as well. In Hardik's absence, Nitish Kumar Reddy was used as a natural backup in the home series against Afghanistan. With this, it is pretty evident that Nitish will fill in for Hardik in the England series as well.
India's squad for England ODIs:
Shubman Gill (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli (subject to fitness), Shreyas Iyer (Vice-Captain), KL Rahul (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Gurnoor Brar.
