Phil Salt and Jos Buttler retained their places despite both being dismissed for ducks in the second T20I.

In a series of interesting events, England have announced their playing XI for the third T20I against India, which will be played at Trent Bridge on Tuesday, July 7. Notably, there has not been a single change in the Three Lions's lineup, as they have decided to back their winning combination in the third T20I.

England shows faith on Jos Buttler and Phil Salt

In the second T20I where England emerged victorious, the opening pair of Phil Salt and Jos Buttler endured a disappointing outing as both were dismissed on ducks. However, they will have another chance to shine in the next game. Meanwhile, the valuable contributions from skipper Harry Brook, Jacob Bethell, and Tom Banton in the middle order will give them a solid confidence to secure a win in the third game as well.

England's bowling attack dropped a strong collective performance against the 2026 T20 World Cup Champions despite featuring a couple of underwhelming individual outings. Debutant pacer Josh Tongue remained wicketless with the figures of 0/46, while veteran leg-spinner Adil Rashid finished the game with the figures of 0/21 in his two-over spell.

Next challenge for Indian team

After suffering their third loss in the last four outings, the Shreyas Iyer-led side will look to work on their weak areas before facing the English side again in the third T20I clash on Tuesday, July 7 at the Trent Bridge Cricket Ground in West Bridgford. It will be interesting to see if the Indian team management will give another chance to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi or Sanju Samson will return to the playing XI.

Currently, the English team leads the five-game series by 1-0, as the first clash which was played in Durham was abandoned due to heavy rain after the conclusion of India's batting.
