Cheteshwar Pujara believes Vaibhav Sooryavanshi may have to wait before receiving his maiden India cap.

The former India batter explained why Team India are likely to stick with their established top-order initially.

Indian youngster Vaibhav Sooryavanshi may have to wait a little longer for his much-anticipated international debut despite being included in the T20I squad for the ongoing England series. The 15-year-old has generated plenty of excitement following his breakthrough IPL campaign, but former India batter Cheteshwar Pujara believes the teenager is unlikely to feature immediately.

Sooryavanshi's selection has been one of the biggest talking points after India's disappointing 0-2 T20I series defeat to Ireland, with many fans expecting the youngster to be handed his maiden cap against England.

Pujara explains why Vaibhav Sooryavanshi may not debut immediately

Speaking on Star Sports, Pujara said the teenager should avoid getting carried away by the hype surrounding him and instead remain focused on his development.

"There is a lot of hype around him, and as a young player, he shouldn't be focusing on what is being said about him. I don't think he will get an opportunity straight up."

Cheteshwar Pujara further explained that India's established top-order is unlikely to be altered immediately, making it difficult for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to break into the playing XI. He added that the youngster could receive his opportunity later in the series if India decide to rotate the squad, while also pointing out that succeeding in English conditions presents a completely different challenge compared to the IPL.

Teenager still awaiting maiden India appearance

Sooryavanshi earned his maiden India call-up after an impressive IPL campaign that established him as one of the country's brightest young talents. However, the left-handed batter is yet to make his international debut despite being part of the squads for both the Ireland and England T20I series.

With India expected to back their experienced top order early in the series, the youngster may have to remain patient before receiving his first opportunity at the international level. Nevertheless, his inclusion in the national setup at just 15 years of age underlines the confidence the selectors have in his long-term potential.
