Former India fast bowler and 2011 ODI World Cup winner, Zaheer Khan is positive regarding young pace sensation Umran Malik standing in good stead, who is named in the Men in Blue's squad for the T20I series against New Zealand. Umran made headlines with his blistering pace and clocked up a speed in access of  90 mph at ease, but has not quite been able to mirror his IPL feat on the international scene in limited opportunities. He will look to make amends for his past inaccuracies in the upcoming series against New Zealand and make a strong case for himself in a revamped Indian side.  Zaheer called him an ‘exciting talent’ with a word of advice that will pay dividends for him in the future.
“Umran has been a very exciting talent and this kind of exposure is definitely going to help him, it is about how he takes things forward if he wants to grab the spot consistently,” Zaheer stated in a virtual meet-up organized by Prime Video.
Much of the Indian bowling arsenal remains the same from the T20 World Cup held in Australia with the addition of Mohsin Khan and Umran Malik. The Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer can perhaps prove to be the piece that India lacked in the T20 World Cup as many experts felt that the Men in Blue could have gone with an express bowler like Umran. The statement only gets more fodder when Zaheer reiterates the need for a fast bowler in the team and Malik could be just the bowler the doctor ordered.
“The variety in your pace attack is a must and you have seen teams following that kind of pattern. You need a left-arm bowler, you need someone who can swing the ball, you need someone who is an out-and-out fast bowler. If everything is in one package, then even better but if not, you would like to use the variety in your attack in the bowling lineup and use different conditions well,” he added.
The J&K speedster will be donning the Indian jersey for the second time after playing three T20Is and leaking runs at an economy of 12.44 with only two wickets.
