With a pursuit to level the series, India locked horns with New Zealand in the third ODI in Christchurch on Wednesday (November 30). Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson, won the toss and invited India to bat first at the Hagley Oval.

Meanwhile, right ahead of the third ODI, in an conversation with famous sports commentator Harshal Bhogle, Pant opened up on his batting order preferences in all the three formats. He showed his willingness to open in T20Is and play at no.4 or 5 in ODIs.

Pant with the umbrella above his head told Prime Video, "The umbrella has been used a lot on this tour. It has rained only on match days! I would like open in T20Is, and at No. 4 or 5 in ODIs and continue to bat in the same position as far as Test is concerned. Your game plan changes accordingly... I don't have a bad record in white-ball cricket. I'm just 24 at the time. There is no down time now, with us travelling to Bangladesh directly from here!"

"In ODIs, you do not need to premeditate much, but you have to do that in T20s," he added.

When asked about how he has a better Test record as compared to the other two formats, Pant seems to have gotten a bit miffed, and his response was: "Sir, the record is just a number. My white-ball numbers are not that bad okay."

When Harsha Bhogle pointed out that he wasn't terming his white-ball record as bad, Pant said: "Comparison does not make sense right now, I am just 24-25 years age of age. If you want to do the comparison, you can maybe do it when I am 30-32. Before that, the comparison does not make sense to me."
