Deepak Chahar to miss ODIs against South Africa, Mohammed Shami ruled out of Tests; replacement announced

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on December 16 announced that right-arm fast bowler Deepak Chahar will be unavailable for the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa. In a release, the Indian cricket board said that Chahar has a medical emergency at home and will return to India. Akash Deep has been named as Chahar's replacement for the ODI series.

Furthermore, veteran pacer Mohammed Shami, whose participation in the Test series was subject to fitness, has failed to clear the set parameters and will miss the red-ball series.

Moreover, Shreyas Iyer will miss the final two ODIs as the right-handed batter is slated to join the Test squad and begin preparations for the two-match red-ball series.

The senior coaching staff of the Indian men's cricket team, including Head Coach Rahul Dravid, Batting Coach Vikram Rathour, Bowling Coach Paras Mhambrey, and Fielding Coach T. Dilip, will join the Test squad to supervise their preparations for the upcoming inter-squad game and the Test series.

In their absence, the coaching staff from India A, including Batting Coach Sitanshu Kotak, Bowling Coach Rajib Datta, and Fielding Coach Ajay Ratra, will be lending their expertise to the Indian ODI team for their upcoming matches.
