CSA announces South Africa's squad for ODI series, young fast bowler who took Kohli's wicket included

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced South Africa’s ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against India. Left-arm fast bowler Marco Jansen has received maiden call-up for the white-ball format after his performance in the Centurion Test. Jansen took five wickets in the Centurion Test including a four-fer in the second innings. The 21-year-old took Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli's wicket in the second innings. 

 

The big names missing from the South African side include wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klassen. His last ODI series was against Sri Lanka in September 2021 where he scored 101 runs from three innings. Anrich Nortje who got ruled out of the ongoing Test series due to a persistent hip injury is also missing from the lineup. Reeza Hendricks is also one of the notable omissions from the Proteas lineup. 

 

Quinton de Kock who recently announced his retirement from red-ball cricket due to personal reasons will play in the ODI series. On the other hand, in-form Faf du Plessis who has made himself available for selection in white-ball cricket does not make it to the squad against KL Rahul-led India. 

 

The ODI series will begin on January 19 and will go on till January 23. The first two ODIs will be played at Boland Park, Paarl and the third ODI will be played at Newlands, Cape Town.

 

The last time India played an ODI series on South African soil was in 2018. The Virat Kohli-led India won the six-match ODI series by 5-1. Kohli was the top run-scorer by a huge margin with 558 runs from six appearances at an average of 186 including three centuries and one half-century.
