He opened up about his relationship with Gautam Gambhir.

Legendary cricketer Gautam Gambhir is set to start his tenure as the new Indian head coach with the upcoming three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. On the other hand, dynamic batter Suryakumar Yadav will be leading the side, he has been the captain of the Indian team before but this will be the first series he will be playing as the successor of Rohit Sharma in the shortest format of International cricket. In a video posted by BCCI from their official ‘X’ account formerly known as Twitter, Surya can be seen talking about being humble in achieving and also about his relationship with Gautam Gambhir. He also talked about playing under his captaincy during his stint with Kolkata Knight Riders and how it helped him grow in his career.

“I think the most important thing what I have learnt from this sport is how humble you are after achieving or even after when you are not doing well. That's one thing which I have learnt when you do something on the ground. You have to leave it on the ground and when you go off the field, that's it. This is not your life. It's just part of your life. So you can't be... When you're doing well, you stay on the top and when you're not doing well, you're underground. That's one thing which I feel you shouldn't do as a sportsman, not only a cricketer. That's one thing which I've learnt and that's what helps me create balance in my life. And if you're a good person, everything happens good,” said Surya in the video posted by BCCI

“I've always enjoyed being a leader on the field even though if I'm not a captain. So I've always learned a lot of things from different, different captains. It's a good feeling and a great responsibility also. This relationship is very special. Because when I went in 2014, I played under him for KKR. It was special because I got the opportunity to play for that franchise. He also says that you took three steps, you took two steps. And you got some in between. So, that was the relationship. And the relationship is still strong. But he knows how I work, what my mindset is when I come to practice the phone, how he tries to work as a coach and it's all about that lovely relationship we have, and very excited to see how it goes forward,” said Surya while talking about his relationship with Gambhir.

Surya-Gambhir era

Suryakumar Yadav and Gautam Gambhir will have a team that is already the T20 World Champions and both of them will have the responsibilities of leading the team in a similar dominant fashion. Now with Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja retiring from T20Is, the young players will have some really big shoes to fill.
