India bounced back in emphatic fashion to level the five-match series against Zimbabwe, securing a convincing 100-run victory in the second match played in Harare on Sunday, July 7.
India crush Zimbabwe in 2nd T20I, level series 1-1
This win came after a shocking 13-run defeat for India in the series opener, showcasing a remarkable turnaround in form. The foundation for this dominant victory was laid by young opener Abhishek Sharma, who smashed his maiden international century. His blistering knock of 100 runs off just 47 balls propelled India to a massive total of 234/2 in their 20 overs. Faced with a daunting target and scoreboard pressure from the outset, Zimbabwe's chase never truly got going. The Indian bowlers were clinical in their execution, stifling any momentum the hosts attempted to build. Avesh Khan emerged as the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 crucial wickets for just 15 runs in his 3 overs. Mukesh Kumar (3/27 in 3.4 overs) and Ravi Bishnoi (2/11) provided excellent support, sharing another 5 wickets between them to dismantle the Zimbabwean batting line-up. With this comprehensive win, India has drawn level in the series and will be looking to take the lead in the upcoming matches.
Abhishek Sharma was adjudged Player of the Match for his blistering century. Abhishek, in the post-match presentation, said that India didn't have much time to lament after upset in the series opener. The star southpaw couldn't make big on his debut and was dismissed for a duck. However, he made his second T20I appearance count and went on to crack a breathtaking century to turn heads.
It was my day and had to take responsibility: Abhishek Sharma
“It was a good performance after the defeat yesterday. We didn't have much time to lament. I felt that T20 is all about the momentum, thought it was my day today. Special thanks to the coaches and captain to keep confidence. I feel like if it's your day, you express yourself. After the drop I thought it was my day and had to take responsibility. Rutu helped me in keeping perspective. I always believe in my (hitting) ability. It's about momentum for me. If it's in the arc, I believe I need to hit it over regardless of when it is,” Abhishek said in the post-match presentation.
