Cheteshwar Pujara shared his opinion on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's ODI future

Both Rohit and Virat are only active as players in one-day cricket

After leaving the cricketing world shocked by announcing their Test retirements in May earlier this year, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are now only active as players in one-day cricket. However, there is a lot of uncertaintly over their future in ODIs as well and it is not known whether they are in the team management's plans for future assignments.

Cheteshwar Pujara, who recently announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, has shared his take on Rohit and Virat's ODI future. He feels that both the batters are experienced enough to know when it will be the right time for them to leave the team for good.

"I don't need to give any advice because they are some of the best players in white-ball cricket. Even if they are playing just one format, they are experienced enough to know what is expected of them," Pujara said during The Indian Express Idea Exchange.

"They are such talented players. Look at the records Virat and Rohit have. They also know when the right time is for them to call it quits. They understand the level of commitment required, and if they are fit enough, they can carry on playing international cricket for a long time," he added.

Rohit and Virat likely to play against Australia

Meanwhile, both Rohit and Virat's last appearance on the international circuit came during the ICC Champoions Trophy final against New Zealand held earlier this year in March. They then featured in IPL 2025 which was their last competitive assignment. They are now expected to make their comeback into the Indian team in the three-match ODI series against Australia which will commence from October 19.

This won't be India's only one-day assignment in 2025 as they will be hosting South Africa in a three-match series which will be contested later in November. They will then be touring New Zealand next year in January for a three-match ODI series and a five-match T20I series.
