Delhi Capitals’ (DC) Rishabh Pant is set to return as he has received the match-ready fitness certificate from the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bengaluru. Contrary to media reports, Pant is yet to get the fitness certificate. On March 10, sources told Sports Tak that Pant got the certificate last week ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Pant is currently doing a few shoots for the IPL 2024. He is likely to come to Delhi for a few days before flying to Vizag to join the squad for DC's pre-season camp. DC are set to play its first two matches in Vizag.
Pant's role still unclear
Sports Tak tried to contact the Delhi-based IPL franchise on whether Pant would resume his duties as captain or play as a speciallist batter. DC did not make an official comment. However, the sources have said that DC doesn’t want to put pressure on Pant keeping his international career in mind. He is unlikely to play as a wicketkeeper-batter.
Earlier, DC's team director Sourav Ganguly had said that the franchise does not Pant getting injured early. They are catering to their long-term needs instead of short-term.
No official statement yet
Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and DC are yet to make an official statement on Pant’s role or his return to IPL.

DC will kick off their IPL 2024 campaign against Shikhar Dhawan-led Punjab Kings (PBKS) on March 23 in Mohali. Pant is likely to make his comeback to competitive cricket after nearly 15 months against PBKS. Then DC will head to Jaipur to take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) on March 28.
Their first home game in Vizag is against the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 31. Their second home game is against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 3.
