KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will take on Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 19 at Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. Ahead of the clash, India wicketkeeper KL Rahul has opened on the disappointing loss to Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19.
32-year-old Rahul engaged in a chat with his Indian teammate Ravichandran Ashwin on Ashwin’s YouTube talk show ‘Kutti Stories with Ash’. During the show, KL Rahul said that if he had the opportunity, he would replay his innings against Australia all over again. He added that if he could have gotten 30-40 runs more then we could’ve had a World Cup in our hands.
I was just stuck in that moment: KL Rahul
“The first thing that comes to my mind is the 2023 World Cup final in Ahmedabad against Australia. I was just stuck in that moment on whether I (should) take down Mitchell Starc. It (ball) was reversing, and he was bowling from a difficult angle for me to attack him. So, I was just stuck in between, on whether to attack and play him and take a chance... and in that confusion, I ended up nicking the ball and getting out at a crucial time,” Rahul said.
“I felt like I had continued that innings and gone on to play the rest of the 12 overs (8) or whatever was left, we could have probably gotten 30-40 runs more, and we could've had a World Cup in our hands. That's something I regret,” 32-year-old Rahul added.
India lost to Australia in ODI World Cup final
During the match against Australia, KL Rahul was the leading run scorer with 66 off 107 balls. However, Australia defeated India by six wickets. India lost the final match after winning ten straight games during the tournament. India were bundled out for a total of 240 runs in the allotted 50 overs after being asked to bat first on a slow and dry pitch in Ahmedabad. Australia chased down the target with the help of Travis Head 137 off 120 balls and won the sixth ODI World Cup title.
Rahul currently with LSG
