Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul had a bad day at the office against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as their in-form openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma chased down the target within 10 overs. After the 10-wicket defeat, Rahul faced the brunt of an upset LSG team owner Sanjiv Goenka. While Goenka faced the wrath of fans for bashing Rahul in the ground instead of having the conversation behind closed doors, LSG assistant coach Lance Klusener has tried to douse the flames.
“I see no problem in a robust discussion between two cricket lovers. For us, it is a storm in a tea cup. It's not a big thing for us,” Klusener was quoted as saying by PTI as he defended Goenka’s outburst.
Sehwag wants minimal involvement of owners
Goenka was criticised by former Indian opener Virender Sehwag as well. He wants the owner to only motivate the players, not bash them in front of the millions.
“The owner’s role should be that when they meet the players in the dressing room or during a press meet, they should only talk to motivate them. But if the owner comes and asks - ‘What is going on? What’s the problem?’ or gets hold of one of the team management members and starts to raise questions about a particular player…see the coaches and the captain run the team, so it is better for these owners not to get involved with players or get angry with me,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
LSG’s playoff chances
LSG's net run rate (NRR) took a major hit. However, they are still alive in the playoff race with six wins from 12 games. They are placed seventh on the points table, just below Delhi Capitals (DC) who they will face on May 14. Their last league clash is against Mumbai Indians (MI) at Wankhede Stadium on May 17. If they managed to win both the games, they will have a chance to book the playoff berth. But they will need to improve their NRR.
