The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batting lineup which broke the record for highest score in Indian Premier League (IPL) history twice this season collapsed like a pack of cards in the final against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). After a top-order collapse, SRH could not recover and got bowled out for 113 in 18.3 overs. This is the lowest score in an IPL final.
The previous lowest score in an IPL final was scored in the 2013 edition. In the run chase of 149 against Mumbai Indians (MI), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) managed to post 125/9. Interestingly, the IPL 2013 final was played on May 26 as well.
While batting first, the record belongs to MI. They scored 129/8 against now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS). However, they were able to defend the total and registered a win by just one run.
After openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head departed in the first two overs, no SRH batter could not make an impact. The wickets kept falling. Skipper Pat Cummins who won the toss and opted to bat first turned out to be their top run-scorer. He scored 24 runs from 18 balls including a couple of fours and a six.
