Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will lock horns with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for their fourth match in Bengaluru on April 2. RCB are currently in the ninth spot in the IPL 2024's points table with just one victory out the three matches they have played so far. Ahead of this season, RCB changed their name to Royal Challengers Bengaluru but nothing new has come for them with this transformation. RCB's bowling woes don't seem to improve which have been impacting their performance for the past many years. It we look at it, RCB's batting is also very much reliant on Virat Kohli as he is the only batter who is scoring runs for them in the ongoing IPL season. RCB bowling is led by Mohammed Siraj but what they are desperately missing in their ranks is a good spinner, who can chip in in the middle overs. In the IPL 2024 auction held in Dubai, RCB bought West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph for a whopping sum of Rs 11.50 Crore. So far this season, Alzarri has taken only one wicket from three matches. Overseas batters, Faf Du Plessis, Cameron Green, and Glenn Maxwell are yet to make an impact this season with their bat.
Stuart Broad wants RCB to take a bold move and drop Cameron Green
Meanwhile, former England's star pacer Stuart Broad revealed why RCB have been left bereft of any IPL title, despite having T20 giants like Chris Gayle, AB De Villiers, and star batter Virat Kohli.
"I think a lot of people have a lot of different views on RCB. It's such a glaring lack of a star above that badge, isn't it for the franchise of the players they've had? They've had a history of fantastic batters, De Villiers, Gayle and obviously Kohli is still there”, Broad said on the Star Sports Show.
Broad also gave his two cents on the RCB's pace attack. He wants RCB to play two overseas pacers in the playing eleven to make their impact on the campaign. He suggested playing England left-arm pacer Reece Topley and New Zealand’s premier pacer Lockie Ferguson.
“But I think you need to play two overseas bowlers. I think the bowling isn't a strength of theirs. They don't think the bowling is going to win them enough games. I think they need to bring in Reece Topley and Lockie Ferguson as a left-arm swing bowler and a genuine fast bowler say to Faf, Virat and Glenn Maxwell, you've got this, we're backing you to get our runs on the board. We need a bowling attack to win it,” he added.
Stuart Broad suggested RCB skipper Faf Du Plessis make the courageous move of dropping Australian all-rounder Cameron Green who was traded earlier this year from Mumbai Indians (MI) for the massive amount of INR 17.5 Cr. He further said that RCB does not have the bowling attack to defend 180 or 190.
"Yes, it's a brave decision to drop Cameron Green after whoever made that decision to trade him for such a lot of money. It's a brave decision to leave him out of the starting 11 because it's sort of going against what you believed at the start of the season, but I don't think that team is balanced. I don't think it looks right. And if they're getting 180-190, I don't see them defending them at the moment. So, bring in two overseas bowlers and say yeah, I'm happy with the batting I think we've got that covered, and see where it gets you," Broad concluded.
