Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 is not just about cut-throat competition but there are plenty stories about courage and commitment to the game and franchise that emerge every season. While Rajat Patidar guided Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to IPL 2022 qualifier a few days ago after postponing his marriage, left-arm pacer Obed McCoy bowled his heart out to help Rajasthan Royals (RR) reach their first final since the inaugural season.

After Royals’ dominating seven-wicket win, their Director of Cricket, Kumar Sangakkara revealed the circumstances under which McCoy is playing in the knockout clashes.

“McCoy's mother has been recovering back in the West Indies but his commitment has been superb,” former Sri Lankan skipper told the broadcasters after Royals booked the final date against Gujarat Titans.

McCoy delivered his best IPL performance at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. In his first spell, he took the wicket of RCB skipper Faf du Plessis. With the old ball, he took the wicket Mahipal Lomror in the 18th over and Harshal Patel's in the final over of RCB's innings.

The Caribbean pacer conceded just three runs in the final over. Overall, he conceded 23 runs in his full quota of four overs.

The 25-year-old has taken 11 wickets from six games. He was expensive against Titans, conceding 40 runs in his four overs.

The southpaw was picked by Royals for his base price of Rs 75 lakh. The T20 specialist has had a good record for West Indies as well. He has 19 wickets from 13 games at an average of 16.84 and an economy rate of 7.61.

On the other end, Prasidh Krishna earned praise from Sangakkara as well. After getting hit for three consecutive sixes by David Miller in the first qualifier, Krishna took three crucial wickets of Virat Kohli, Dinesh Karthik and Wanindu Hasaranga.

“Special credit to Prasidh. The way he was honest with me was really impressive. He is a very special talent,” Sangakkara said.
