Rajasthan Royals' (RR) hapless defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Tuesday (April 5) followed another bad news, which saw Nathan Coulter-Nile ruled out of remainder of the IPL 2022 season.
The Australian pacer sustained an injury in his only match in the IPL 2022, which was side's opening encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), where they lost the game by 29 runs on March 29. However, the 34-year-old was not at his best in that match where he conceded 48 runs in a spell of three overs. During the match, Coulter-Nile was forced to leave the field without even completing his four over. He did not take the field since then, and Navdeep Saini replaced him in RR’s next two fixtures. While the nature of the injury is yet to be known, the franchise has confirmed that he will not take part in the remainder of the season.
The Rajasthan franchise took to Twitter to announce the ouster of Coulter-Nile who was roped in by RR for Rs 2 crore.
“Until we meet again, NCN. Speedy recovery,” the tweet from the Rajasthan Royals read.
However, his replacement is yet to be announced.
On Tuesday, a sensational display of hitting from Dinesh Karthik and Shahbaz Ahmed helped RCB recover from a mini batting collapse and record a four-wicket win over RR.
Jos Buttler hammered half a dozen sixes in his unbeaten 70 off 47 balls as Rajasthan Royals grafted their way to 169 for three after RCB opted to bowl.
Losing four wickets in a space off 11 balls, RCB were in all sorts of trouble at 62 for four before Karthik (44 not out off 23 balls) and Ahmed (45 off 26) took the game away from the opposition with a 67-run partnership off just 33 balls.
Karthik eventually got the team home in 19.1 overs. It was the first loss of the season for the Royals after consecutive victories.
