India's Asian Games 2026 semifinal opponents confirmed after another quarter-final washout

The quarter-final action in the men’s cricket competition at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 has been dampened by incessant rain. Third consecutive quarter-final has been washed out. After a win against previous edition's semifinalists Afghanistan, Nepal will have to bow out of the tournament as Sri Lanka are the higher-ranked side and will advance to the last four. Sri Lanka will face previous edition’s gold medallists India in the semifinal clash on October 1.

Who will Pakistan face in the semifinal?

Sahibzada Farhan-led Pakistan had made it to the semifinals after their quarter-final match against Hong Kong, China was washed out. If the fourth quarter-final is washed out as well, Bangladesh will progress to the semifinal with Malaysia bowing out as the latter is the lower-ranked side. Then, Pakistan will face previous edition’s bronze medallists in the semifinal match.

What if semifinals get washed out?

The semifinals are scheduled to be played on October 1. If the semifinals get washed out too, the higher-ranked sides will progress. In that case, India and Pakistan will fight for the gold medal whereas Sri Lanka will face Bangladesh in the bronze medal match.

What if the final gets washed out too?

In Hangzhou Asian Games 2026, India won the gold medal after the match was abandoned due to rain. India were the higher-ranked side and Afghanistan had to settle for a silver medal. However, the rule has changed since the last edition. If rain washed out the final, both teams will share the gold medal. The final is scheduled to take place on October 3.
