It was an eventful first day of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 auction. The auction had to be stopped after a couple of hours as auctioneer Hugh Edmeades fell from the podium, flat on his face. The reason behind the auctioneer’s scary fall turned out to be low blood pressure.
In order to keep the auction going in Edmeades' absence, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) called Charu Sharma as the backup auctioneer. With almost an hour and half was lost on the first day of the auction, auctioneer Charu made a major announcement for franchises at the end of day's proceedings.
Now, on second day of IPL auction, a total of 504 players will go under the hammer. In order to fastrack the bidding process on second day, BCCI came up with a plan. At the end of the day, auctioneer Charu announced that all 10 franchises need to submit a list of 20 players each before 9 AM on February 13. Only those players will be included in the second day of the auction.
The announcement means that the franchise will have work to shortlist 20 players out of which they will have to pick eight to 15 players for their squad for the upcoming 10-team tournament. It is to be kept in mind that one player may appear on the list of multiple franchises which may make franchises regret splurging mean on the first day of the auction.
