Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter Jos Buttler scored the first century of Indian Premier League 2022 on April 2 (Saturday) against Mumbai Indians (MI). The opening batter’s century (100 runs off 68 balls) helped his side in reaching a total of 193/8 in 20 overs. Eventually, RR secured a 23-run victory against MI.

Buttler's revelation

After scoring the century, Buttler did not celebrate and later he revealed the reason behind it. The DRS review had confused the English batter a bit and that is why he did not celebrate initially.

“It’s a great feeling, nice to contribute. A bit nervous, not sure if it’s a good score or not. Mumbai always attack me with Bumrah, he’s one of the best bowlers in the world, so it’s hard work. I thought that over was a short leg-side boundary. This time we tried to really accelerate,” Buttler told the broadcasters.

“I thought I knew, but never quite sure, so just wanted to wait and see. I got a bit frustrated at the end, but I felt okay. I slowed down a bit, I couldn’t get the ball the way I would’ve liked. So we could’ve got a few more, but you know the start of the day at 194, we would’ve taken that,” he further added.

Match details

In the match, Buttler started the batting on a promising note and went on to register his second century of IPL. Later, RR skipper Sanju Samson (30 runs off 21 balls) and Shimron Hetmyer (35 runs off 14 balls) scored crucial runs to help their side in reaching a formidable total.

In reply, MI lost their skipper Rohit Sharma (10 runs off 5 balls) in the second over of the innings. MI wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan (54 runs off 43 balls) and Tilak Varma (61 runs off 33 balls) tried to put up a fight but eventually their efforts proved to be inconsequential as the five-time champions could only reach a total of 170/8 in 20 overs.

For RR, Navdeep Saini and Yuzvendra Chahal picked up two wickets each to earn a vital victory for their side. Ravichandran Ashwin, Prasidh Krishna and Trent Boult bagged one wicket each for RR against MI.

With this win, the Rajasthan-based franchise claimed the top spot in the IPL standings. On the other hand, MI currently occupy ninth position in the IPL points table.
