Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) suffered a 21-run defeat at the hands of former champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) clash at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Wednesday (April 26).
Riding on Jason Roy's lightning 56 off 29 and Nitish Rana's blistering 21-ball 48, KKR posted a huge total of 200/5. In reply, RCB were restricted to 179/8 despite skipper Virat Kohli's 54 off 37.
KKR got off to a robust start with their opener Jason and N Jagadeesan going all guns blazing to amass 66 runs inside the powerplay. Roy unleashed the beast inside him and belted RCB's bowlers left, right and centre as his innings was a treat to watch for KKR fans.
Shahbaz Ahmed also fell prey to Jason's blitzkrieg in the sixth over when the star English batter tonked four sixes to leave Kohli sulking and KKR fans stunned. Three of the sixes were smashed off the consecutive deliveries while the fourth maximum came off the final ball off the same over.
Roy launched his blitzkrieg from the second ball of Shahbaz's over which came right into his pads. Jason whacked the ball over mid-on for a maximum. Next came on the third ball, which saw him slog sweeping Shahbaz over midwicket area and then followed it with yet another six
The second six was a powerful slog sweep over midwicket, and followed that with another maximum in the fourth ball of the over. After playing a dot ball in the fifth, Roy cracked a six off the final ball again which saw him slog sweeping the ball and depositing into the stands.

Jason's innings was studded with four boundaries and five sixes.
Meanwhile, KKR now stand seventh in the IPL 2023's points table with three wins in eight matches, Meanwhile, RCB grab fifth spot with four victories in eight ties.
