Mumbai Indians (MI) thrashed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday (May 21) to inch closer to playoff berth. However, their fate is still dependent on the outcome of the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT). MI will want RCB to lose the match against GT in order to cruise into top-four in the IPL 2023 points table.
Rohit Sharma played an instrumental role in MI's stunning win over SRH as he struck his first fifty in the ongoing IPL. Rohit also became only the second batter after Virat Kohli to complete 11,000 T20 runs.
Rohit went on to score 57 off 36 before getting dismissed by Mayank Dagar in the 14th over. Rohit earlier got a lifeline when Sanvir Singh dropped him on 12. Rohit was dropped again by the very same fielder on 51. But make no mistake Nitish Kumar Reddy pulled off a stunning superman catch to give marching orders to Rohit. Rohit Sharma tried to play a lofted shot towards cover off Mayank Dagar who was bowling the 14th over. But Rohit failed to connect the ball properly and Nitish Reddy took a full stretch towards his right at backward point to send Rohit packing.

While chasing a colossal target of 201, Green walked down into the middle after the dismissal of Ishan Kishan (14 off 12). He joined his skipper Rohit and steadied MI's boat and stitched together a 128-run partnership. Rohit was dismissed by Mayank Dagar after belting his first half century in the ongoing IPL (56 off 37) and in the process become only the second Indian after Virat Kohli to amass 11000 runs in T20s. Green continued his blitzkrieg after Rohit's dismissal. He reached his fifty in just 20 balls and then continued to hammer the opposition and stayed till the end with Suryakumar Yadav (25 off 16) to win the match for MI.
Earlier, SRH rode on splendid knocks from Mayank Agarwal and Vivrant Sharma to post a huge total of 200/5. Akash Madhwal was pick of the bowlers for MI as he bowled an impressive spell of 4/37.
