Mumbai Indians (MI) continued their upsurge in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season with a 14-run win over the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Uppal Stadium in Hyderabad on Tuesday, April 18. With 20 needed to be defended in the last over, the ball was handed to Arjun Tendulkar, who is the son of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

The 23-year-old easily did this feat, and at the same time even took his maiden wicket in the IPL when he bowled a fuller ball that Bhuvneshwar Kumar tried to hit but twisted his bat. Skipper Rohit took the catch as the young all-rounder ended up conceding just five runs in what was just his third over.

In 2.5 overs, he conceded 18 runs at an economy rate of just 6.35. After the match, his skipper Rohit Sharma was very pleased with Arjun's bowling and was proud to see him performing at such a high level. "It's quite exciting to play with Arjun. Life has come full circle. Arjun has been part of the squad for the last three years. I have seen him grow. He understands what he wants to do, and he is quite confident he can do it. He is trying to swing the new ball, and bowling yorkers at the death."

Meanwhile, Arjun himself was happy with his performance and spoke about his discussions with his father before the match. "My plan was to just bowl wide and get the batsmen hitting into the longer side. I was itching to bowl, yes. I love bowling and happy to bowl any time. We [Sachin and him] talk a lot about cricket. We talk tactics and plans. I just focused on my release and the lengths I want to bowl. If it swings, it is a bonus; if it doesn't, so be it," he said.
