One of the biggest talking points of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season was an incident during the reverse clash between the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). After this game, there was a period after this game that saw a fight between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on May 1.
Gambhir, the mentor of LSG, and Kohli, the former captain of RCB, continued on from a dispute between Kohli and Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq.
New report's revelations
According to a report in the Dainik Jagran, it is now being said that the players of LSG were shaken after seeing the fight between Virat and Gambhir. Earlier, when both teams clashed with each other at Bangalore's M Chinnaswamy Stadium, there was a conversation between Virat, Gambhir and also Vijay Dahiya, for about 45 minutes. So when the fight happened in the second leg of their match in Lucknow, the players of LSG were left surprised.
The report also mentions that Gambhir got angry with Kohli in Lucknow because he had clashed with Naveen-ul-Haq. After Naveen's dismissal, Virat was asking him to leave the crease. During this, there was also a heated conversation between Kohli and Naveen. And then when Kyle Meyars was talking to Virat, Gambhir came and sidelined him.
As a consequence of the incident, the league recognised the severity of the incident and imposed a heavy fine on Kohli and Gambhir. The RCB batter was fined 100% of his match fees and the LSG mentor was also docked for his entire match fees.
In addition to the two of them, Naveen-ul-Haq was also penalised for getting involved in a heated exchange with Kohli during the customary handshake between players after the game. The Afghanistan pacer was fined 50% of his match fees.
