KKR star bowler returns from Pakistan to pile misery on winless Mumbai Indians

Two-time title holders Kolkata Knight Riders are all set to take on five-time champions Mumbai Indians in the 14th match of the IPL-15 on Wednesday (April 6). A good news followed KKR camp. After missing the first three matches, Australia skipper Pat Cummins will be available for today's team selection against MI, who are yet to open their winning account in the IPL 2022. However, Cummins arrived India on April 1 and started training with the rest of the KKR squad after a 3-day quarantine as mandated by the BCCI.

As per Cricket Australia’s (CA) policy, the star speedster would have only be allowed to participate in the IPL after April 5. However Cummins was not the part of Australia's ODI squad for three-match series which they lost to Pakistan 2-1. However they won the only T20I match against Pakistan by three-wickets on Tuesday (April 5).

Not among the initial retainees for the Knight Riders at the IPL mega auction, Cummins was bought back for 7.25 crores. This came after the two-time champions had already spent 15.5 crores to bring in the pacer, taking the total spending on the player to 22.75 crores.

The Australian pacer has had a topsy-turvy career in the IPL, turning out for KKR during the 2014 and 2015 seasons, but playing only four matches and picking up two wickets. In 2017, he had his best season, scalping 15 wickets in 12 matches for the now-defunct Delhi Daredevils.

After returned to KKR in 2020 as the second most expensive buy in the history of IPL (RS 15.5 crores), Cummins has picked up 21 wickets in as many matches, and the Knight Riders will rely on his current form in the recently-concluded Test series, where he picked up the Player of the Match for a brilliant performance in the final Test against Pakistan, to continue their push for a spot in the playoffs.
