Punjab Kings (PBKS) created a unique record with their joint-highest successful run chase in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on March 27. As Shahrukh Khan finished the run chase with style with a boundary off the last ball of the penultimate over, PBKS broke Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) record, which was created in 2019. The score of 208/5 by PBKS is the highest IPL score without any of the batter scoring an half-century or more in the innings.

In the high-scoring run chase, two PBKS batters came close to hitting a half-century but got out in the middle overs. Opener Shikhar Dhawan and debutant Bhanuka Rajapaksa scored 43 runs each before losing their wicket to Harshal Patel and Mohammed Siraj respectively. Other batters contributed with cameos as PBKS won the match with six balls to spare. On the other hand, Siraj leaked 59 runs from his four overs which turned out to be the difference between the two teams.

It is also the joint-highest successful run chase by PBKS, their best since 2014. Interestingly, it is also the highest successful run chase against RCB. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have done it twice whereas Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have done it once.

In the high-scoring affair, the two teams conceded a total of 45 runs. RCB conceded 23 runs whereas PBKS conceded 22 extras in their campaign opener. Out of RCB's 23 extras, 14 were conceded by Siraj which included five wides.

While PBKS’s run chase did not include a single half-century, RCB’s new skipper Faf du Plessis scored 88 runs off 57 deliveries including three fours and seven sixes. He was supported by former Virat Kohli's 41, who played his 200th IPL innings. Later, Dinesh Karthik's 14-ball 32 cameo helped get the score past 200.
