Covid-19 has hit Delhi Capitals (DC) camp again. DC head coach Ricky Ponting has been isolated following one of his family members testing positive for the virus. Following this, Ponting will not be seen in DC's dugout for the clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Everyone at DC camp including players, support staff and their family members had undergone Rapid Antigen Test on April 21 and April 22 ahead of their clash against Sanju Samson-led RR at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.
DC's statement
“Ponting himself has tested negative twice subsequently. However, in the best interest of the team, the management and medical team has decided that he will remain in isolation for five days, as he was a close contact. He will, therefore, not be present at the ground for tonight’s game against Rajasthan Royals. The franchise requests for Ponting and his family's privacy to be respected in the current scenario,” DC said in a statement.
Positive cases in DC camp so far
Earlier Mitchell Marsh and Tim Seifert had tested positive for the virus. In addition, team doctor, member of social media team and three hotel staff personnel had contracted the virus as well.
However, the clash against RR will go ahead as scheduled. Earlier, following multiple cases in DC camp, the game against Royals was shifted out from Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) stadium, Pune to avoid travel.
The Rishabh Pant-led side is currently ranked sixth on the points table with three wins from six games. Despite a mixed bag of a season, DC have the best Net Run Rate (NRR) among all franchises as they registered a record win over Punjab Kings (PBKS).
