Yuzvendra Chahal finds his name in unwanted list after losing yet another IPL final

Punjab Kings' (PBKS) quest for their first-ever IPL title will continue for another year as they suffered defeat in their second IPL final, this time at the hands of RCB on June 3. PBKS had shown strong performance throughout the season, finishing at the top of the points table and securing their place in the final by winning the second qualifier match. However, despite their consistent form, they faltered at the final hurdle once again, ultimately finishing as the runners-up in the tournament.

PBKS' Yuzvendra Chahal endured his third defeat in an IPL final. Interestingly, this wasn't his first time losing an IPL final. He previously faced a similar outcome while playing for RCB back in 2016. In that 2016 season, RCB reached the final but ultimately fell short, losing the summit clash against SRH. This means that Yuzvendra Chahal has now been on the losing side of the IPL final on three separate occasions, once with RCB and twice with PBKS.

Yuzvendra Chahal's second IPL final loss came in 2022 when he was a part of RR squad. In that season reached the final but were defeated by Gujarat Titans. This marked the second time Chahal ended up on the losing side in the IPL's ultimate match. Most recently, Chahal experienced his third IPL final defeat while playing for PBKS in the IPL 2025 season. Despite PBKS's strong performance throughout the tournament, they were unable to clinch the trophy, resulting in another final loss for the experienced leg-spinner.

Yuzvendra Chahal's recent loss in the IPL 2025 final marked his third such defeat with a different franchise. This unfortunate statistic places him in an exclusive group of players who have experienced the disappointment of losing the IPL final while representing three different teams throughout their IPL careers. Notable names such as R Ashwin, Shikhar Dhawan, and Rahul Tripathi are also part of this list, highlighting the unpredictable nature and competitive balance of the Indian Premier League.

R Ashwin has the record of having lost IPL finals while playing for CSK, RR, and DC. Similarly, Shikhar Dhawan has experienced defeat in IPL finals while representing MI, DC, and SRH.  Rahul Tripathi also finds himself in this list, having lost IPL finals with Rising Pune Supergiant, SRH, and KKR.

Yuzvendra Chahal managed to take 16 wickets in a total of 14 matches for PBKS in IPL 2025. Unfortunately, he was sidelined for two matches due to a wrist injury. In the crucial final match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Chahal bowled his full quota of four overs, conceding 37 runs and picking up one wicket.
