Shami's brother further revealed that the threatening email arrived around 2-3 pm on May 4, prompting them to immediately report the incident to the Amroha police. Authorities are currently investigating the matter concerning the threat sent to the Indian pacer through email communication.
In a separate incident, Team India's head coach Gautam Gambhir also received death threats via email few days back. However, Delhi Police identified the sender as 21-year-old Jigneshsinh Parmar, a Gujarat resident. Parmar was apprehended by the Central District Police team and subjected to detailed questioning. He is an engineering student, and his family has asserted that he suffers from mental health issues. The Delhi Police have stated that further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
Gautam Gambhir reportedly received two threatening emails on April 22nd, the same day as a terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Both emails contained explicit threats, stating "I kill you," according to the Delhi Police. The threats were sent from a suspicious Gmail account.
Talking about Mohammed Shami, he recently made his comeback to the Indian national team during the Champions Trophy 2025, following a period away from the game due to surgery after the ODI World Cup 2023 campaign. Notably, he was India's joint-highest wicket-taker in that tournament, securing nine wickets in five matches.
During the IPL 2025 auction, Mohammed Shami was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, his performance in the current season has been less impactful than anticipated, with the pacer taking 6 wickets in 9 matches at an average of 56.17. Looking ahead, Shami is expected to return to red-ball cricket during India's tour of England, which is scheduled to commence on June 20.
Shami will be seen in SRH's upcoming IPL 2025 clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) which is scheduled to be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium on May 5.
